PPC is for “Peeing Penguins Crossing!”?

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Just had to change some boot options on my PowerBook to get rid off a borked ubuntu-bootsplash (namely adding video=offb:off video=nvidiafb). When I updated yaboot in the process, I got the following:

liquid:~$ sudo ybin -v
[..]
ybin: Setting attributes on ofboot…
ybin: Setting attributes on yaboot…
ybin: Setting attributes on yaboot.conf…
ybin: Blessing /dev/hda2 with Holy Penguin Pee…
ybin: Updating OpenFirmware boot-device variable in nvram…

Well, if it helps..

System flooding

I just wondered why there’s no space left on /, here’s why:

$ ls -l /var/log/kern.log
-rw-r—– 1 root adm 1013111466 Apr 8 17:04 kern.log

seems like my fscking wlan-stick just can’t get it straight. It filled the log with 1GB of the following:

Apr 8 09:42:45 localhost kernel: hfa384x_usbin_callback: wlan0 rx pipe stalled: requesting reset
Apr 8 09:42:45 localhost kernel: hfa384x_usbin_ctlx: Could not match IN URB(0×8003,-75) to CTLX – ignored
Apr 8 09:42:45 localhost kernel: wlan0 rx pipe reset complete.

Insulted by gstreamer

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

I added a new category, –verbose, which will cover unexpected bits of communication between my system and me.

While configuring gstreamer v.0.8.9, it told me the following:

configure: WARNING: Sissy ! By asking to not build the tests known to fail, you hereby waive your right to customer support. If you do not agree with this EULA, please press Ctrl-C before the next line is printed. By allowing the next line to be printed, you expressly acknowledge your acceptance of this EULA.

Yeah, right. You expect me to keep track of ./configure’s output while it takes place and then abort it? Nice try. This is no 8086 running here. Btw, I never cared much about EULAs. Did anyone, anytime, anywhere? Now this is how it looks if developers want to sneak away from the responsibility to support their product.. calling me a sissy :-D
